xoxo… to the weekend

real quick… give it up for the KING! Dr. Martin Luther the KING. his life, his struggles, his sacrifice’s need to be celebrated everyday.

*slow clap* *slow clap* *slow clap*

what a great 3 day weekend thIs was… THANK YOUUUUUU DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING. it seems as if I was non stop the entire weekend, but it was amazing. I think I’ll be petitioning for a mandatory 3 day weekend once a month. I’ll let you know how that goes! in the mean time scroll down and check out my weekend shenanigans.

SATURDAY.

I ventured out to harlem for a vision board party. harlem is so beautiful, I definitely have to make more of an effort to visit.

stage of the Color Purple

stage of the Color Purple photo op.

this past weekend, was AHMAZINGGGG. while bae was away for the weekend (a ski trip that I’ll rage about another time), the bff came up from Philly to catch up. ever since bae moved up & in, I haven’t had a girls weekend. so his weekend away was right on time. keep in mind what I call a weekend, was actually 24 hours.

the color purple musical on broadway

the color purple musical, on broadway

saturday was non-stop, but it felt like it flew by.

one of my favorite books, and movies is the color purple. so, it was only right to support the musical. i feel like I am the only jennifer hudson supporter in the world, she was another reason I was excited to see TCP musical.

let me tell you, celie, played by cynthia erivo** was OUTSTANDING. that girl sang her freakin heart out. i mean, standing ovation worthy, had me in my chair waving my arm in true church lady fashion.

j hud was an ok shug avery. man, if she had just a little more rhythm, she would be so dope. anyway, she did an ok job. her voice is amazing… as usual, and babygirl is keeping the weight off. CONGRATS, because the struggle is so real!

overall, I enjoyed the play. I was a little upset none of the original songs were performed. can you imagine j hud singing “God is trying to tell you something.” ughhhh, she would have brought the house down.

TAO- uptown

next, we headed uptown (yikes) to TAO. i’ve been to TAO a million times, but never the uptown location, I’m a downtown girl. normally, it’s always a fun enjoyable experience… tuh. I wasn’t impressed by the uptown location. $17 cocktails were horrible, it took cort and I AN HOUR, to finish one cocktail… blasphemy. hostess’ who stare at their computer screen, when speaking to real people irks my entire soul. and cramped ass seating arrangements while dining is annoying. I mean, when guests next to you are on a romantic date, but ya’ll start chit chattin, and learn all their business.. means I’m too close. but the food was soooo good. the lobster & shrimp roll is a MUST.

after dinner, we headed further uptown to HARLEM… met up with 2 dope chicks, Kelly & Kedra. then crashed a private birthday party at row house, and then back to brooklyn and passed out as soon as we crossed the threshold.

(no pictures, I was too turnt by then)

** as I type this blog post, I am listening to cynthia erivo’s pandora station… and I hate pandora.

DOPE... the movie at BAM

DOPE… the movie at BAM

A must see… hilarious, true, and epic. Yes, I drank half a bottle of wine before attending, so I may have laughed a little harder and louder than usual, but this movie was greatness. The story of a 90’s music fan/ high school geek who gets caught up in local drug activity is genius. The events that took place in this movie, aren’t far from reality. Growing up in West Philadelphia, being bussed off to school everyday, many times carrying a violin case did not make me blind to what was going on in my neighborhood. So the storyline of DOPE, definitely hit a few soft spots for me.

me and the bff… having a photoshoot!

meet Celeste from RedHook

I mean… how cool is this? celeste runs a lemonade stand on the corner of her block. and guess what all the money she makes goes towards… her college fund. I am an advocate for higher education, but the way college tuition is set up, I hope my children are 12 year old entrepreneurs like celeste.

GAY PRIDE… front seat view

my favorite day in NYC is GAY PRIDE. the main reason, because everyone is HAPPY. homophobes know to jet off to the Hamptons or wherever they go to hide, and the city comes alive. Everyone is laughing with one another, meeting new people, walking around topless, openly being affectionate, and I love every minute of it.

what is “astroglide?”

21st and 5th… ALL LOVE!

I hope everyone had an amazing weekend, filled with LOVE, FOOD, and GREAT FRIENDS!

tisa face = duck lips… with the FamWorkers

you ever have a weekend, where you have so much planned, and one thing changes, and the whole weekend is ruined? Well that’s how my weekend started off, but In the end I made the best of the situation.

The best part about my weekend was, running into Eddy and Andre’s, the delivery guys at a deli near my job.

Eddy & Andres... both drunk ass a skunk.

Seems a little weird, but it literally made my crack up laughing. Why is this my life? HAHA.

Another one bites the dust… CONGRATS future Mrs. Penny on  your upcoming wedding!

I rarely hang out in the city, let alone the Meatpacking District but here are a few tips to get you through the night:

  • PRE- GAME. PRE- GAME. PRE-GAME. drinks in the city are expensive for no reason.
  • DO NOT cross the rope before a bouncer grants you access. Seriously, you’ll be escorted off the premises.
  • BOTTLE SERVICE or NOTHING. It’s annoying being “General Admission” at the club. If you’re celebrating something special, cough up those extra coins and relax.
  • DON’T BE THE ANGRY BITCH. Listen, this is New York, it’s ALWAYS crowded. No need to get all defensive and rude because someone bumps into you or touches you. Leave New York if you don’t like people or can’t stand being touched by a random person. That’s life in this city.

the coolest wedding
photobooth set up
photo booth set up

In 2015, can you even say you had a “fun” wedding reception if there was no photo booth? A backdrop, camera, and props, seriously brings couples, and people together. At one point, I jumped in a picture and didn’t even know the person in the picture.

89 years YOUNG.

89 years YOUNG.

When I think of individuals who are in their 70’s and 80’s, Mrs. Anna Mae (pictured above) is not what comes to mind. When I tell you, Mrs. Anna Mae had better dance moves than people half her age. She danced the entire night. I was immediately obsessed with her, I mean just look at her outfit!

taco food truck

food truck

All you can eat taco’s, thanks to  Tex’s Taco Truck. I must say, having a taco truck or any sort of food truck cater any event is genius. No fuss, guests walk up and order how much of whatever they want. You don’t have to worry about servers photo bombing your pictures, or worry about the stress of having a 4 course meal.

Royal Palms Bar– love.

I promise I love the weekend just as much as the next person, but this weekend has sucked my entire soul dry. From birthday celebrations, to brunch, to shuffleboard tournaments all while facing the NYC winds, last minute holiday shoppers and consuming large amounts of alcohol has worn me out. I’m not complaining, especially since I plan to do it all again next weekend, haha.

Friday night, I headed to Putnam Pub and Cooker, to celebrate 30 years of life with Jac’leen.

Saturday, brunch at Piquant, the best part was $10 bottomless Sangria. I walked out of the restaurant feeling warm and tingly inside. Later, I tried something different and hung out with friends at Royal Palms Shuffleboard. Which, until that night, I had no idea what shuffleboard was. Thank goodness for friends with creative minds

Sunday, chill day. I made my own breakfast. Inspired by my “friends” at the corner store… beef sausage, egg and cheese on a round roll and watched HBO series all day… please don’t judge me!

What did you do this weekend?
