urban decay makeup giveaway

happy friday! as we continue to celebrate One Year at the gold curve, I decided to host a makeup giveaway. I mean, what’s a celebration without prizes? so I teamed up with my favorite NYC makeup artist, Tedrick Lamar. Tedrick has chosen a few of his “go to” Urban Decay products, and we’re giving them to you!

here’s what Tedrick has to say about the giveaway products:

the Anti- Aging Eye Primer is my favorite. It has a slight luminous finish that helps brighten the eye and everyone can use a little anti aging!

the Naked3 Palette is my absolute go to product, especially for brides! plus blush colors tend to look great on everyone. you can still create soft girly looks as well as sexy seductive smokey eyes.

the Revolution Lipstick. provides full body color, and a creamy finish. basically it’s the perfect lipstick. you can wear full on or pat it on with finger or lip brush for a more stained lip look.

to enter:

• follow @thegoldcurve on Instagram
• on Instagram, tag a friend to the “Urban Decay Makeup Giveaway post.” ( there is no limit to the amount of friends you can tag)
• the friend you tag, must follow the gold curve on Instagram

baby, I’ve got the blues…

as promised, in honor of our 1 year anniversary, I reached out to my favorite bloggers for their expertise in their creative field. all the way from DC, providing us with beauty tips for the new season. first up… jennifer, of the amazing beauty en masse!

about jen: hailing from the district of columbia. government relations professional by day, avid consumer of beauty products by night. living on purpose. beautifying every part of life.

is anyone else completely distraught that summer is over?? school is back in session, everyone has returned to work full-time, traffic is crazy, and long gone are the days of what seemed to be an endless vacation, filled with fun and sun. sad = me, but that’s not the reason why I’ve got the blues. I’ve fallen dangerously in love with blue eyeliner, most obsessively, with midnight blue hues. This shade pairs perfectly with my “Pretty Brown Eyes” (queue mint condition)…

while applying contrasting shades is not a new phenomenon, it’s a totally new practice for me. Check out Rihanna back in 2008, rocking a bit of blue. take note of that brown eyed-glow!

they say it takes at least 21 days to form a habit well, “viola!”, I’ve formed an addiction. I will make it my personal mission to find the best blue eyeliners in the market. I’ve chucked up the deuces to all of my black eyeliners, opting for a color that adds a little more “character” to my lids. my new blue boo is Le Truth!

now, you don’t have to be as drastic as me and toss out all of your fav black eyeliners in one fell swoop, or be willing to go to the ends of the earth to find the latest and the greatest, but I would encourage all of you brown-eyed dominants out there to open your eyes (pun-intended) to something new.

Brown eyes have natural light flecks that become on FLEEK when you apply a beautiful bold blue hue. blue is less severe than black liner, yet achieves the same sexy sultry effect. blue eyeliner doesn’t give you that hard look, like black, but is still sharp. the more you play around with the intensity of the liner the more looks you can achieve like creating those expressive looks, a smoky eye, or making the whitest parts of your eyes, even whiter…the list goes on.

brown eyes are the most common eye color in the world; make yours unique by playing in a little color. personally, I prefer midnight blues, but when I’m feeling frisky I go for a blue with a little shimmer.

Here are few of my favorite blue eyeliners:

the pictures above do the colors no justice. these are the must see/try on in-person type.

embrace the blues, baby…it’s the new black.

oh and if you’re saying to yourself, “I’m not spending that kind of money on eye-liner!”, you should change your thinking, after all you’re worth it.

special love to tisa on the 1 year anniversary of The Gold Curve. it takes a special type of magic to tap into your passion and share it with the world. happy birthday TGC, keep up the great work!

on that note, I’d like to express even bigger THANKS to tisa for allowing me, a novice “blogger”, some shine on her site. I am a beauty enthusiast [product and tool-obsessed junkie] and have been craving a creative outlet to showcase my thoughts and experiences in the beauty world for quite some time.

so, recently, I decided to invest in my vision and created BeautyEnMasse—a source of inspiration for all things beauty. beauty en masse will feature a range of content from product reviews, the latest trends in the beauty industry, to health and wellness tips, as well as my personal commentary on how to be your best BEAUTIFUL self. we will cover it all. the site is set to launch this fall, so stay tuned…

Xo,

Jen

my current obsessions.

my OBSESSIONs are real… strolling through sephora and decided, I need a “pick me up.” so here are the products I purchased and love:

beauty blender cleanser SOLID: lately, I’ve been using johnson and johnson’s baby bath liquid soap to clean my beauty blenders, I’m all about the HACK chile. so, when I saw the beauty blender solid, I decided I’d give it a try.

solid huh, looks messy and not worth the money ($16). It’s actually easy to use, and not as messy as I thought. what I like most is how easy it makes traveling. less than 3 ounces, and no spills.

fresh LIFE: it’s no secret that FRESH products are something I’ll always spend money on. they’re light and “fresh.” Funny thing is after using this brand for years, I’ve never tried the classic FRESH scent. tried & true.

urban decay matte lipstick MENACE: i love urban decay but I have only tried their eye shadows, and primers. because I’m a lover of a dry lip (just kidding) I decided to try their matte lipstick brand… the best matte lipstick EVER. I have worn this lipstick for 10… yes 10 days straight. No dry, or cracked lips. this one is a winner, and shooting straight to the top of my must haves list.

loving my new beauty products… share your current obsessions below!

the “new” makeup brush

artis

i love to get lost on Instagram. clicking random IGers pages, finding random products, stumbling across new music… I LOVE IT! a few months ago, I came across an interesting makeup brush collection by ARTIS.

the evolution of the makeup brush is how I would describe the ARTIS collection. a long curved handle that allows for an easier self application.

3 reasons I am OBSESSED with ARTIS:

• the linear 1 brush is very narrow, making my brow application flawless

• the cosmefibre technology makes makeup blending easy as pie

• the curved handle on each brush fits perfectly in my hand for better control

great for contouring… but, I’m still trying to perfect that craft

contouring 101

one makeup technique that I have to learn and master before the summer is out is contouring. For the most part applying makeup comes naturally, but for some reason, my inner drag queen skills will not reveal themselves when it comes to contouring. So, enough clown face, and an overly contoured forehead. I’m now seeking the help of well known NYC based makeup artist, Tedrick Lamar.

• so what’s his key to success you wonder? •

first, understand the different types of contouring, and what works for you. day time vs. night time makeup application. also, understanding the product you should use depending on your skin type. And remember, it’s easier to add than subtract. so, start small.

small contour brush & angled brush is needed

• how do I know what shades of foundation/concealer to use? •

use 2 shades of foundation. one a shade lighter, for highlighting, and the other for contouring, 3 -4 shades darker.

• But really, is contouring even for me? •

anyone can contour. the key is knowing your face shape. everyone has different needs, and understanding  your needs will make the process easier. before you start, use your fingers to feel for the hollow areas of your face, don’t be shy, get to know your bone structure.

• what about the beauty blender, it’s my favorite makeup applying tool? •

I love the beauty blender, it’s the easiest and best tool to use. I can paint an entire face with just the beauty blender if I wanted to.

contouring for beginners can be a little stressful, but practice is always the key. after a contouring workshop with tedrick, I feel confident as well as educated. below are 3 tricks I learned:

• beauty blenders are a gift from God (my next project will be learning more about the founders)

• start with small amounts of makeup and work your way to heavier amounts

• get to know your face, and know what works best for you

• practice makes perfect
