xoxo… to the weekend

DOPE... the movie at BAM

DOPE… the movie at BAM

A must see… hilarious, true, and epic. Yes, I drank half a bottle of wine before attending, so I may have laughed a little harder and louder than usual, but this movie was greatness. The story of a 90’s music fan/ high school geek who gets caught up in local drug activity is genius. The events that took place in this movie, aren’t far from reality. Growing up in West Philadelphia, being bussed off to school everyday, many times carrying a violin case did not make me blind to what was going on in my neighborhood. So the storyline of DOPE, definitely hit a few soft spots for me.

me and the bff… having a photoshoot!

meet Celeste from RedHook

I mean… how cool is this? celeste runs a lemonade stand on the corner of her block. and guess what all the money she makes goes towards… her college fund. I am an advocate for higher education, but the way college tuition is set up, I hope my children are 12 year old entrepreneurs like celeste.

fresh squeezed lemonade.

GAY PRIDE… front seat view

my favorite day in NYC is GAY PRIDE. the main reason, because everyone is HAPPY. homophobes know to jet off to the Hamptons or wherever they go to hide, and the city comes alive. Everyone is laughing with one another, meeting new people, walking around topless, openly being affectionate, and I love every minute of it.

what is “astroglide?”

21st and 5th… ALL LOVE!

I hope everyone had an amazing weekend, filled with LOVE, FOOD, and GREAT FRIENDS!

3 days of lobster rolls

on my free time, I like to write yelp reviews. not those bougie posts that make you think you’re reading an article in bon appetit. I mean posts that are “REAL.” my posts have a little humor, the truth, and of course a little profanity. sorry. Follow this link to my yelp page, and enjoy full reviews of all of the restaurants listed below and more.

It’s been a great summer so far, I discovered my love for lobster rolls and It has taken over my life. So, for the love of blogging, I’ve decided to roam the streets of New York to find my favorite lobster roll.

First up… burger & lobster!

burger & lobster

with only 3 items on the menu, everything has to be good, right? If you agree, you must try this place. I think I almost licked my fingers in public.

PRO: AMAZINGGGGG lobster roll. without a doubt, MY FAVORITE on this list!

CON: none, regarding the food… (check out my yelp review and see what I had to say about the service *shade*)

luke’s lobster

located right under the Brooklyn Bridge, I figured if the lobster roll at Luke’s Lobster sucked, I would head to shake shack, or grimaldi’s which is around the corner. But, when I saw the line to order, I knew I was in for a treat. I tried the TASTE OF MAINE, 3 half rolls (shrimp, lobster, and crab roll)

PRO: that buttery, crispy roll

CON: too much oregano (but not a big deal)

street food, from around the world… this place was calling my name. so many great options on the menu, so for one of my meal options I had the lobster roll.

PRO: the citrus mayo that I dipped every fry in before eating

CON: the lobster roll (*more shade*)

Please feel free to add to my list… who makes the BEST lobster roll in your area?!

dj jazzy jeff & the fresh prince: summer time

summer is upon us, and all I can think about is the sound of great music blasting from car stereos, portable speakers at the park, pool, or beach, and MUSIC FESTIVALS. check out a few throwback songs i LOVE, that also remind me of summer…

ice cube: it was a good day

juvenile: back dat ass up

BONUS

50 cent: in da club

back story about this song: the NBA All Star game was hosted in Atlanta, my freshmen year of college. just to let you know, that weekend, was one of the BEST weekends of my life. Around that time 50 cent was “the next big thing.” his hit song in da club could be heard anywhere there was a speaker, or stereo.

a bunch of my college friends (shout out to Pfeiffer Hall, second floor, east wing) headed to Lenox Mall to join in on the “ratchetness.” we arrived at Lenox, and maybe 45 minutes later, the mall was shut down. as we were leaving, we heard in da club blasting from a truck. about 10 of us started dancing, and rapping along, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET, IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC. shortly after a guy gets out of the truck, and signals for one of us to come to him. guess who it was? 50 cent. he invited all of us to the club with him that night. so we ran back to the dorm, and started getting ready. he called later to check in, and confirm we were coming. he then asked if we had cars. wanda’s response, “Hell naw we ain’t got no vehicles.” and that was the the end. NO transportation, NO party.

every time I think of that story, I smile from ear to ear. epic.

happy saturday everyone, enjoy this amazing weather, and amazing music!

men in espadrilles.

men in espadrilles

I am totally obsessed with men wearing espadrilles. I think it’s easy, relaxed, and different. I mean, I don’t know many men who wear espadrilles. I could probably bet my life, if I asked men I know, about wearing espadrilles, 98% probably wouldn’t know what I was talking about.

But as summer moves in at the pace of a tortoise, I love the idea of the relaxed & easy look of a man in an espadrille.

ladies & gentleman… let me in on your thoughts. yay or nay to the mens espadrille?

oh yeah… bae is moving to NYC, and one thing I can’t wait to do is change his wardrobe from “ATL shawty” to “I’m stylish, and I owe 75% of that to my girl.”

*he’s going to kill me when he reads that. hehe.

Obsessed with… ESPADRILLES

All Black Flatform Kid Espadrille

brand: all black (MUST HAVE)

every summer I find something to fall in love with. in 2014, it was mara hoffman swimsuits, 2013 it was wedge sneakers, 2012 henna, and 2011 fringe, leopard print, and bucket bags… pysch, that last part, I’ve been in love with those things since 1984.

but… 2015 it’s all about the ESPADRILLE!

an espadrille works as a comfy summer shoe, for walking these NYC streets, and rippin’ n runnin’ through summer festivals all the while giving you fashionable footwear.

here are my favorite picks for summer espadrilles:

valentino psychedelic camouflage canvas

brand: valentino

mara hoffman jaguar espadrille

brand: mara hoffman

chloe striped suede fringed espadrille

brand: chloe

House of Harlow Carolyne Espadrille

brand: house of harlow

Planning on killing the summer with all of these white numbers.  2 of 3 are already in the mail, and heading my way. You know I love white nail polish, so the thought of that white on white action makes me do a little dance in my head. I’m so excited.

Honestly, I’ll probably only wear the heels a few times, because the A train and 4″ heels ain’t hardly cute. But, I just have to have them.

oh yeah… i celebrated a birthday.

apert

birthday cards from my loving friends & family

birthday’s have always been special to me. I remember growing up, and having parties. the entire family would come to my house, everyone would sing the “happy birthday” song and I would make a wish and blow out the candles. my parents would give me great gifts, and my siblings and cousins would hug me all day. It was always a great time. I’ve always looked forward to april 3rd, and 31 years later… ain’t shit changed!!
